Zamfara: Bandits kill three, abduct district head, 50 others

At least 50 people, including a district head, women and children, have been abducted while three others were reportedly killed in an attack by bandits in Bagega, a mining village in Zamfara State.

Some of the residents who confirmed the authenticity of the incident to newsmen, said the gunmen who rode motorcycles, on Tuesday morning, stormed the village, shot indiscriminately and set several houses ablaze.

Confirming the attack, the village head, Abubakar Uba, told newsmen that the gunmen kidnapped the district head before proceeding to kidnap dozens of others in the village.

They stormed the village on dozens of motorcycles, and their first stop was the district heads residence. A few of them took him away with three members of his household before they entered the town and unleashed more harm, Uba stated.

The State Police spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar was unable to respond to get their response regarding the attack as of the time of filing this report.

Noise Pollution: Lagos to seal bars, churches, mosques

The Lagos State Government has announced that it will close down bars, churches, clubs, mosques and companies causing environmental nuisance in the State.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this on Tuesday in Lagos, while speaking at a management meeting with the newly appointed General Manager of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) Babatunde Ajayi, and directors in the agency.

He urged the management team of LASEPA to review its operations strategies in line with international best practices and charged them to review their operations strategies following accepted international best practices.

I have also directed the zonal directors, monitoring and enforcement units to begin advocacy and strict enforcement by closing any public place (bars, churches, clubs, mosques, companies, among others) causing environmental nuisance across the State.

This is in compliance with the Lagos State Environmental Management Protection Law, Wahab stated.
